Blacksmith Classes
I am now offering blacksmithing classes out of my shop in Menlo Iowa along with teaching out of the shop located in West Amana for people who are looking for something fun to do for a day or a weekend. I’m offering (4) types of classes that I’ll be teaching. Since my shop is rather small and I feel that more people grasp information better, I’ll be teaching only one person per day or a father son duo which can also be mother daughter duo also.
So how this will work: Once you have clicked on your preferred class and basically bought your spot. Call or text me that you have ordered your class. I will then contact you as soon as possible with the contact information you have given me, and we can choose a day and time for you to come. When the day arrives to your class, I will have sign a waiver before you enter the shop. Then I’ll have you sit and I’ll talk to the you about what we’ll be making, and the techniques that will be used then I’ll show you how to start the forge and how we’ll make what you have chosen. All payments are non-fundable due to me buying the materials and consumables before our class. Also all I ask you to bring for our class is safety glasses, gloves (leather ones), your own lunch, and to wear appropriate clothing (jeans, boots, etc).
The Classes:
J Hook class: This is about a 4-5 hour class and is perfect for beginners.
Knife making class (Menlo shop only): This is about a 10-12 hour class where I’ll teach you how to forge, file, heat treat, and fit a handle to the knife along with sharpening. Depending on how quick of a learner you are it may take longer so we may have to book another class to finish your knife. (The knives will range from either small neck knives to small skinning knives) this is a perfect class for hunters and outdoorsmen who would like to make a tool to serve them on their adventures along with being able to say that you made it.
Utensil Rack & Utensil Class (Amana Only): This is a new class that I’m offering to people that would be great for the ones who want to make something that they can use everyday. This class is a 3 day maximum. Where we will be making the following: a meat fork, spatula, ladle, and a rack to hang them on. Due to this class being a multiple day class with a lot of material involved its a lot pricier than my other classes that I offer. The set is one that is based off of 18th century examples. It’s a great class for both people with metalworking experience, and beginners. As of right now I’m only offering this class to students over the age of 18+ and will only be taught in West Amana.
Couples class♥️: This is a a class great for couples wanting to make something meaningful for each other whether it be couples bracelets with the date you met or a forged heart with the day you were married. Either way this class is great for a new date night idea.
Ornamental Wall Grille Class (Amana Only): This class is a 2 day maximum class. Where you’ll be learning techniques such as scrolling, punching and drifting holes, tenoning, riveting, forge welding, and more. Due to this being a multiple day class and a lot of material used, its a little more pricier than my other classes. This class is great for both beginners and people with metalworking experience. This class I’m only willing to teach to people over the age of 18+, and only in West Amana.
Class dates may vary due to weather or unforeseen circumstances so don’t get discouraged over cancellations we will still have your class that works better for the both of us on times. Especially for those offered for working in the Amana shop. As it is a 3 hour drive for me and the drive can be rough especially in the winter.
